Hi
Just wondered if someone could help with this,
Up till now I have been using an XDA with a Haicom GPS and TomTom2 Navigator,
I am now changing systems to an Ipaq 5550, I have ordered a Navman 3450 Jacket, and am planning to use it in the following setup
Loaded with TomTom Navigator2 UK and Navigator US, on a single 1Gb CF card (Both just fit).
Has anyone had any experience using the 5550 and the Navman Jacket (Are there any known problems with this setup), or with a large amount of maps loaded (Just about 1Gb).
Any help appreciated,

By coincidence I'm emabarking on an almost similar path. I terminally broke my 3850 and have replaced it with a 5550. I can tell you that the system fires up OK with the Navman sleeve - software loads and I got a GPS fix. My next step is to sort out whether there are PC2003 issues and how I overcome them. My only concern, if I were you, would be the 1Gb storage and whether it would be accessible - there have been some problems with large SD cards for example. _________________ Graham |

Providing you're using a CF card and not MicroDrive, then I don't believe there will be any issues. There were initial problems with compatibility with the sleeve on the 5550, but this has now been recitified I believe, and Navman USA do say that the sleeve and SmartST Pro is compatible with 5400 and 5500 series iPAQ's.
There were also slow TTFF problems with the 3000 and 3400/3420 sleeves, but these have been rectified in the new 3450 sleeve. If you haven't read the 3450 review, then you can find it here |

Hi Guys,
Thanks for your replies,
Yes my CF Cards are Cards Not Microdrives, I have a good supply of 1Gb CF Cards for use in my Work Camera so I can try several makes and snaffle the best for use in the Navman,
The TTFF does concern me, I would prefer to go for a more standard Bluetooth or Cable Setup, but I really need the large storage of a 1Gb CF card, as I drive across the US all the time, and don't really want the hassle of constant swapping of 256mb data chunks of the US map on SD cards
I suppose my other option would just be to get a standard CF adaptor jacket to hold the 1GB CF, and use a standard or Bluetooth GPS with it,
I will investigate that as well, anyone think that is a viable option.
Regards
Victoria

Victoria, I would go with a CF Jacket, and Bluetooth GPS, you'll get a much stronger signal with this set-up. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi All,
Again thanks for your comments on this,
I was able to cancel my order for the 3450 Jacket,
Instead decided to go for
Standard CF Jacket with Battery and a 2.4Gb Microdrive (Get all my world maps on that without ever having to swap card),.. and a Bluetooth GPS, lot easier when moving from vehicle to vehicle.
Looking forward to getting on the road to try it all out
Regards
