I've a Medion GPS system - mdppc250. It runs the GPS/mapping software , no problem and works a treat.
The UK maps are a little out of date, is it possible to update the maps?
Second, can I add audible speed camera alerts to the system?
Thanks, Colin. |

Is it possible to update the maps but no one here seems prepared to help novices like us find the upgrade path for medion. Even medion do not seem interested.
For speedcam warnings however you can get a download of POIWARNER if you go to www.POIHandler.com there are links there.
It is a paid for service €24 per year and well worth it. First rate support and an active, user maintained, database. I am sure lots of other data sources too. |

Roy124, Thanks for the pointer. I've bought the poi warner app, and that seems to do exactly what I need - 29 euros and 12 euro annual subscription for the speed camera points and updates.
No luck with updated maps - agree the Medion web site is useless. I can live with the old maps for the time being.
Thanks again, Colin. |

elder, my thoughts exactly. I hope Dave, the editor picks up on this too as I had identical problems and told him so on my own message. |

You can use the Safety Camera data from this web site for FREE. |

And how does it compare? How often is it updated? |

PocketGPS, I have downloaded the camera database safety file but I, probably in common with other newbie Medion Users, don't know what to do next.
The supported applications are not the same as the Navigator 2004 - NavTeq On Board that Medion/TCM advertises itself as.
The perpetual query I have is exactly what navigation software am I using? I like it but cannot upgrade it as I don't know what it is to start with. |

I have never used any other files for the Safety Cameras so cannot tell you how they compare, but the files on this web site contain over 6,200 entries for them, so I would think that they are quite good, they are updated at the end of each month.
If you are using POI-Warner then you may be able to follow the guide on my web site, but do a FULL backup of your original setup in case it does not work for you if you try it, the basics should be the same.
Have a look, you can download the instructions to your main PC to read them off-line.
Just click the link below. |

As has been stated, Medion Navigator is a rebranded cut-down version of Navigon Mobile navigator.
There are some maps available from Medion although none for the UK that I can see.
If the above link doen't work (session timeout) go to 'PDA/GPS Accessories / GPS Maps'
The Medion MDPPC250 is a PocketPC capable of running any PPC navigation software therefore if map updates are proving difficult you could consider upgrading to the full version of Navigon _________________ Ian.

I found Darren's review of the Navigon software and his direct linkage to Medion - an easy upgrade route. I then followed a different thread to:
http://www.navigon.com/site/int/en/shop/consumer/upgrades
where I found I can order what I want for €49 plus just ubder €10 postage. The only catch is you have to return your original CD and manual.
Now €49 is my sort of money. |
