Have just acquired another Fortuna Clip-On and was wondering if Fortuna have made some hardware changes? (My old one is 8months old)
When switching from ST to XT on my old one I could see the difference in the LED colours (RED to GREEN for ST) and (Constant ORANGE for XT). But this new one just does RED to GREEN for both.
I looked in the manual and there is no reference to the LED colours for XT, just general the GPS status.
Any ideas or is just plain stuck in ST??? _________________ TT GO 1005 |

Hi jaker,
The answer lies in your question. Your new unit seems to have the new firmware as indicated by the LEDs working exactly the same whether your in ST or XT mode.
If you check out the "Firmware upgrade fro Xtrac v2???" thread, page 6, posting by drummer, you'll see that going from Xtrac v1 to Xtrac v2 does indeed change the way that the LEDs work in XT mode.
So probably no changes to the hardware, but at least new firmware. Allegedly there are some utilities that will tell you what version you're unit uses, but I cannot get any of them to work. If anyone knows I would be grateful

To see version use GPS tweak (download page) and use command poll version |

Thanks for the replies. :D
My new ClipOn is using Version 2.4.11.01 of XTrac v2 (data obtained using GPSTweak)
I'm having problems though getting GPSTweak to interrogate my old ClipOn. Keep getting "Error opening comm port".
So now I'm looking to upgrade the firmware of my older ClipOn. Do I need to use a bluetooth dongle attached to my PC to do this?? I don't think I can run the flash program direct from the Ipaq.

Ok, deinstalled the TomTom GPS program (previously using v3.03) and now GPSTweak can access my old ClipOn.
It reckons it SW VER=231.000.000
I'm presuming this is the old one.
I've downloaded the files from Fortuna for the upgrade but how do I connect? _________________ TT GO 1005 |

Hijacker,
The update has to take place from a regular PC (desktop or notebook) that is Bluetooth enabled and preferably has a floppy drive available, although some have used a USB memory stick. You can't do this from your PDA
So if you don't have Bluetooth enabled PC then you will need to borrow or buy a Bluetooth USB dongle - about £25 to buy. |
